AI Helper

The AI Helper is built directly into the Corca editor. It can read the current document, answer questions, solve math, generate code, explain results, search documents, create and move documents and folders, and help edit content without leaving the workspace.

Unlike a standalone chatbot, the AI Helper works in context. It understands the current document, previous messages, and mathematical expressions already present in your work.

Opening the AI Helper

To open the assistant, click AI Chat in the bottom of the page. You can also ask about a specific passage: select it, press Ctrl+Space, and choose Ask AI.

If the document has unread chat messages, the relevant chat — team chat or a bot chat — opens automatically when you open the document.

The conversation stays connected to the current document, so the AI can reference formulas, variables, and previous results automatically.

Choosing a model

Use the model selector in the chat input to choose which model answers. You can select Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, or leave it on Auto to let Corca choose the best model for each request. The default is Claude Sonnet. You can switch models mid-conversation — the context carries over, and each reply comes from the model you selected.

Sending messages

Press Enter to send a message. Cmd/Ctrl+Enter adds a new line.

While the AI is still writing a response, a stop button replaces the send button — click it to halt generation immediately. You can also send a new message before it finishes; the AI folds your new message into the response it was already writing instead of starting over, so you can redirect or add a constraint mid-answer.

Asking about a selection

Select text in the document and press Ctrl+Space, then choose Ask AI at the bottom of the menu. A prompt box opens next to the selection with a few suggested questions and edits about the text you picked — click one, or type your own request.

What happens next depends on what you ask. A request like "make this shorter" rewrites the selected lines in place, rather than adding something new below them. A question like "what does this mean?" is answered in chat and leaves the document untouched.

Asking questions

You can ask questions about mathematics, code, writing, or the current document.

For example: Solve x^2-5*x+6=0

AI response: x={2,3}

Mathematical expressions are rendered as structured math, not plain text.

Working with mathematics

The AI Helper can solve, simplify, transform, and explain expressions directly inside the workflow.

Using document context

The AI automatically reads the current document before responding. This allows it to reuse variables, functions, assumptions, and earlier results.

Example:

• Document content is ƒ(x)=x^2

• You ask what is ƒ(4)

• AI response: ƒ(4)=16

Because the AI reads the document context directly, you usually do not need to repeat definitions manually.

Inserting content into the document

AI responses can be inserted directly into the document, just click the little arrow on the left of the response you'd like to insert.

AI-generated edits

The AI can also propose direct edits to existing content. Changes appear as editable suggestions rather than automatic modifications.

You can either approve or reject the changes

While the AI is writing, the blocks it is about to change stay highlighted until the whole response finishes. Steps it takes along the way — reading the document, running code — appear below the text as it works, and disappear once they complete.

When the AI writes into your document, it sends its changes in batches, so long answers, like a list of formulas, appear quickly. If the AI provider has a temporary error, Corca retries automatically. If the retry also fails, the reply shows a failed state instead of loading forever, so you can send the request again.

Working with documents and files

The AI Helper can interact with documents inside the workspace. It can:

• read documents

• search project content

• create new documents

• insert generated content

• create folders

• move documents and folders between them

Web search

The AI can retrieve current information from the web when needed.

Example:

What is the current population of France?

The AI retrieves and summarizes the latest available information.

Working with images

Images can be uploaded directly into the chat. The AI can:

• read text from images

• analyze equations

• interpret diagrams

• explain visual content

The AI helper can also read images already in the document, not just ones you upload to the chat. Once it has looked at an image, it remembers what it saw for the rest of the conversation — you don't have to ask it to re-read the document.

Example:

You upload a handwritten equation and ask to solve the equation The AI parses the image and generates a mathematical solution.

Chat history

Conversations are saved automatically. The AI remembers previous messages inside the same chat, so follow-up questions remain contextual.

Chat titles are generated automatically after the first exchange.

Running code

The AI Helper can write code for a task, insert it as a code block, run it in your document, and install any libraries it needs. Ask it to solve something computationally and it will produce runnable code and explain the result.

Drawing graphs

The AI can create a graph in the document from your request — for example, ask it to plot a function and it inserts a graph you can adjust.

Attaching files

Alongside images, you can attach other files to a message so the AI can read them. Upload with the attach button, drag a file onto the chat, or paste a copied file. Images appear as previews and other files as chips, and uploads show progress and can be canceled.

Text files — .md, .tex, and .txt — are read directly as text. Attach a .tex or .md file and ask the AI to import it, and it brings the content in as formatted math and prose rather than a plain block. This is an alternative to importing from the sidebar.

Notifications

If you switch away while the AI is working, Corca notifies you once the answer is finished, not when it starts — so the notification arrives with the reply ready to read.

The floating chat input

When the chat panel is closed, a floating input bar sits at the bottom of the document. Type there to start or continue a conversation; sending opens the panel with your message already in it. Use the Chat with Bot button in the right sidebar to switch between the floating bar and the sidebar entry point. This button also appears at the bottom of the right sidebar whenever a team chat is open, so you can jump straight to your bot conversation.
