Organizing Your Workspace
The left sidebar is the main navigation panel for your Corca workspace. It shows your documents, folders, teams, and shared content, and it is where you move between documents and organize your work.
In practice, it functions as your file system inside Corca.
What’s in the sidebar
The sidebar is organized hierarchically and typically includes the team selector, the document tree, system folders such as:
Drafts
Published
Trash
as well as search and import controls. All content in your workspace lives within this structure.
Document tree
The document tree displays all documents and folders in the current workspace. It reflects the full structure of your work and updates automatically as changes happen.
You can use the document tree to open documents, create new items, rename them, or reorganize your structure.
A typical structure might look like this:
Team Workspace
Algebra
Homework
1 Homework
2 Physics
Notes
Drafts
Public Profile
Trash
Folders can be expanded or collapsed, which helps keep large projects manageable.
Opening a document
To open a document, click it in the left sidebar. The document appears immediately in the editor.
The currently active document is always highlighted in the sidebar, so you can easily track where you are.
Creating documents and folders
You can create new documents directly from the sidebar.
Click New Doc to create a document in the current location. Alternatively, right-click a folder and select New Document to create it inside that folder.
Folders are created in the same way. Right-click and select New Folder, or use the relevant control in the sidebar. Folders can contain both documents and other folders, allowing you to build nested structures.
Renaming items
Documents and folders can be renamed directly in the sidebar. Click the name, type a new one, and press Enter. The update is applied immediately.
Moving items
Documents and folders can be moved using drag and drop. You can drag items into folders, reorder them within a folder, or reorganize the entire structure. When you move a folder, all of its contents move with it.
A folder cannot be moved into itself. This prevents invalid or broken structures.
Drafts, Published, and Trash
Three system folders are always present in the sidebar.
Drafts is used for temporary or in-progress work. It behaves like a normal folder, and you can later move documents into another location.
Published contains public documents. Moving a document into this folder makes it visible to others.
Trash stores removed items. When you delete a document or folder, it is moved to Trash rather than permanently removed. You can restore items by moving them out of Trash.
Context menu
Each document and folder has a context menu.
Click on three dots by the name or right-click an item to access actions such as renaming, moving to Trash, duplicating, or creating new items.
For example, right-click a document and select Duplicate to create a copy directly below it.
Duplicating folders
You can duplicate entire folder structures. When a folder is duplicated, all of its contents — including nested folders and documents — are copied.
This is useful when you want to reuse a structure or create a version of an existing project.
Real-time updates
The document tree updates automatically. Changes such as renaming, moving, creating, or deleting items appear instantly. This works across collaborators, so everyone sees the same structure without needing to refresh.
Search
You can search for documents directly from the sidebar. Press Cmd + / to open search, then type your query. Matching documents appear immediately.
Import
You can import files directly into the sidebar. Drag files such as Markdown, LaTeX, or ZIP archives onto the sidebar, or use the Import button. Corca will create documents and folders automatically based on the file contents and structure.
Notifications
Documents and folders can display message badges. A badge indicates the number of unread chat messages associated with a document. Parent folders aggregate these counts, making it easy to spot activity across a project.
Team selector
At the top of the sidebar, the team selector lets you switch between workspaces. Click the current team name to open the dropdown, then select another team. The document tree updates immediately.
The selector also displays basic team information, such as the team name and member count.
Sidebar visibility
The sidebar can be shown, collapsed, or hidden. Press Cmd + \ to toggle between states.
In collapsed mode, only icons are visible. In hidden mode, the sidebar disappears entirely. The system remembers your last state.
Folder expansion
Folders can be expanded or collapsed to control how much of the structure is visible. Click a folder to toggle it. This is especially useful when working with large projects.
Public profile view
If you open a document that belongs to another user or team, the sidebar changes. Instead of your document tree, you see the owner’s public profile and published content. This prevents accidental interaction with their private workspace.
